The surprises of wandering Kayla Linda Kasarherou Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours - Photo Media My work explores my wandering in Auckland City and its suburbs. I was trying to find tranquility and busyness in my wandering. Going to different places without knowing where I am going led me to a place of being lost but at the same time being happy to get lost as it made me feel more present. I felt quite uncertain when moving around the new places I find myself in and there is always some surprises, that results in great photographs. These photographs ended up expressing my idea of peace, of calmness, but also of busyness. I wanted to show the busyness and the complexity that can be found within a city. In addition, I was interested to photograph the forms and objects that arise from everyday lives. I was also interested in the natural environment and the world around me. As my yearning to find peace within myself and in the world has always been here, it was important for me to make a project on this subject through my wandering in Auckland, New Zealand. On top of that, I think everyone wants to be happy and at peace with themselves. The bonus to add a contrast to the concept of peace, which is busyness, is that it allows us to see the opposite of tranquility. In a nutshell, showing peace and busyness at the same time makes us realise that our lives are a mixture of nice, peaceful moments but at the same time there will always be some harsh situations and under pressure times. Life is full of ups and downs. Through my rambling, I live in the unknown and I don’t know what will be the destiny of my roaming. However, when I look at the final photographs, I came to realise that my wanderings are worth and my doubts are useless but good to keep to remind myself that I am actually really lost in my mind but also outside in the world. Besides, all of these teaches me to let go and surrender, hence to keep living in my incertitudes, because this is where the richness comes, sprouts. List of works - 19 prints - Untitled 2024
