Questions to ask myself when making work (photographing) - (Consequently, I will know what I want to do for the year)

 - Why I am making a project on my friend, Jiawei? Why always her? (the artist's muse) Because we are quite similar, we share similar practices and interests that are linked to spirituality, meditation and mindfulness.  Making a project on a somebody else who is quite similar like me, makes me think that I am making a project on myself (partially, like a part of myself and what I do and how I see life, and on the other hand,  focus on the life of another girl like me who has a unique life and does different things in life and perceive life in another way, but at the end we can find some similar interests like spirituality, meditation and yoga, as well as life philosophy).  Why always her? Because, that's one of the only people that I kept in touch and clicked with since last year where we met at the meditation club at the University of Auckland. And I think she's the only person that I found the more quiet in the meditation club. She is calm and quiet. In some ways, ...

It showcases the impressive results of a remarkable career that coincides with two of the most significant developments in photography in the second half of the twentieth century: the rise of mass-circulation picture magazines; and the occasionally contentious relationship between personal work and commercial photography.” This exhibition shows both the miracle of Erwitt’s balance between commercial and personal photography, and the memorable flavor that he brings to his work. The exh...

What do you do? What sort of things do you make? Or capture? Or select?  I do photography, particularly in portrait photography. I like taking pictures of people, not only their face but anything that can represents them.  My previous project (from the last term of last year) was on my observation of a person, in order to investigate the mystery of this woman, as a means to reveal something of her. It was an observation of my friend Jiawei who has a morning routine at home including meditative and mindful practices. Practices that myself do as well.  When I was photographing my friend, I was paying attention to her face, to her behavior, to her reaction and actions. During her meditative practices, I was taking photos of her face, her feet, her legs, her hands, etc. And through that, I was able to pay attention and find that in these I could find shadows. I liked the use of na...
